Arrogance
Greetings! If you have read my last blog "Technology" there is a slight chance that you are dissapointed, perhaps even a bit indignant, that the promised article, featuring my ohsoimportant thoughts and opinions on the now semirecent Bill Nye vs. Ken Ham debate, is obscenely late. I would like to address these concerns by first saying "THIS IS MY BLOG AND I DO WHAT I PLEASE, MUAHAHAHAHAHA \('0')/ !", and also "I AM SO SO SORRY DEAR READERS FOR MY LACK OF CONSISTENCY AND I PRAY THAT YOU WILL FORGIVE ME AND LISTEN TO MY LONG EXPLANATIONS AND EXCUSES."
I first came up with the idea for the article that didn't happen while watching the debate as it aired(the full debate can be viewed by clicking on the the second set of glowyblue letters). As I watched the two gentlemen exchange round after round of verbal ammunition in defense of their respective viewpoints, I came up with several picks that I planned to later bone on the interwebs in the form of a mock debate where I would debate myself, voicing both sides thoroughly, thereby fixing any gaps in the arguments put forth by the "qualified people" during the "real" debate.
However, as I started writing the article I was struck by a sudden realization of my own arrogance. In fact, I had what one could call an epiphany, of sorts, in regards to my general attitude as of late and the general attitude of a certain portion of my generation. I have noticed that among many young people around my age, particularly college students, there is a certain condescension towards peers(occasionally warranted) and certain non peers(often unwarranted). All but the most saintish of people, I've observed, are susceptable to this attitude at one time or another(relishing in someone's ignorance or other shortcomings) but it seems as though a few of those in my generation have taken to making a lifestyle, even a proffession, out of it. Becoming self-absorbed, patronizing, prickish people, they(we) shall be dubbed "Pins" from here on.
Without making any broad, unsubstantiated, imperical statements I believe I can safely say that Pins have been around for quite a long time, but do to the relatively recent advent of the Internet their(our) poking frequency has skyrocketed. Another factor to the rise of Pins has been the steady decline of intelligence in the culture(not individuals) of the average youth in our great country. This decline in the culture/intelligence quotiant causing those youth who still retain their senses(by virtue of their upbringing or environment), to develop a feeling of superiority over certain peoples(those people who enjoy Nicki Minaj, or don't know how to pronounce the word "often" for example) simply because they themselves are not degenerates.
This, of course, is not an acceptable excuse for snobbish, snobbery or ruddy, rudeness towards the naive(i.e. "Cushions") and the ignorant(Which we all are at certain times), and certainly not an excuse for a patronizing attitude towards the experienced. My point in all this being that- WE SHOULD ALL STOP BEING MEAN AND LOVE EACH OTHER! That is all.
For those of you still wishing to read a qualified individuals thoughts and opinions on the debate Dr. Jay Wile has written a fantastic blog on the subject.
